Nzca/Lines – Okinawa Channels //Tipped For 2012//

31 Dec

Okinawa Channels:

Nazca:

Having ignored the spate of ‘end of year lists’ that have been blossoming all over the blogosphere of late, on the basis that no-body really wants a reminder of how many good albums they managed to miss this year, I decided to give you something a little different, though let’s face it not radical, to see in the new year. This’ll come in the form of 3 or four feature on artists we’re hotly tipping for 2012 the first of which is the London mastermind Nzca/Lines. We’ve interviewed and hyped this chap before but what better opportunity to do it again than on the day he drops his album teaser.

Although said teaser hardly gives you much of a flavor their are a few leaked tracks here and there which do and which we think you should be honoring with some heavy rotation. Glitching into your headphones like an etherial blast of long-lost radio waves it’s hard not to compare some of the sounds to, 2011 scene stealers, Metronomy but that’s not to accuse him of imitation. Indeed with his light touch and gorgeously bonkers lyrics Micheal Lovett is hard to pin down as anything other than a shining beacon of twitching talent well worthy of our backing for the new year. Check out our interview with the man himself HERE.

Gil Scott Heron / Drake / Jamie XX / Wait What – I’ll Take Care Of U

30 Dec

If you can ignore the fact that this is basically a remix of a remix of a remix of a spoken word piece its well worth the effort of a spin. Wait What takes the best bits of all the various reinterpritive efforts (gleefully removing Rihannas verses) producing a track that sounds like, after plenty of stabs at it, the finished product. We like.

Solar Bears – Cub (Keep Shelley In Athens Mix)

29 Dec

As remixes go this one is pretty up there. Flying the flag.

Blood Orange – Bad Girls (Piano Only Version)

29 Dec

This piano-only cover is just phenomenal. Properly moving. Give it a twirl above…

Fevers – Passion Is Dead (Long Live Fashion)

29 Dec

Ottawa based Fevers make hard-to-resist fist-pumping electro-pop that makes you want to do some inspired, preferrably ultra slow motion, dance moves. Perfect for shaking off those early-morning back to work blues.

Caves – Anthem For A Doomed Youth

28 Dec

Caves hail from the sunny shark-laden coastline of LA which makes their weirdly otherworldly slices of soothing-pop somewhat surprising. From our experiences its normally Scandanavian bedroom-junkies hiding from the snow who makes tracks as gorgeously uplifting as this. If you like what you hear its well worth looking for the Adolescent Dystopia Ep from which the track is taken.

Dudes – C.O.S.M.I.C

27 Dec

We talked about these guys a fair while back. Coming in with an unabashedly ‘Chillwave’ sound that’ll make fans of Neon Indian all weak kneed and bashful they’re well worth a download. Another good one to help smooth over any festive hangovers…

The xx – Open Eyes

25 Dec

Well here it is at last Merry Christmas to you all and I hope Santa treated you well… While you all struggle to work off the turkey and wine induced quasicoma I thought you might like the gentle strains of some new material from The xx, a demo entitled Open Eyes, to have a little nap to. While it sounds very raw its still a bit of a masterpiece bringing to mind the unpolished charm of a similarly titled outfit, JJ. While we can’t wait to hear the finished product for now this should do us just fine. I’m off back to the gathering so enjoy yourselves!!!

Geographer – Life Of Crime

23 Dec

Geographer-Life of Crime (Mp3)

We haven’t had rousing synth-rock on these pages for quite a while. So to right that wrong we’ve decided to introduce you to Geographer a band who aren’t nearly as boring as they sound and actually, from the one song we’ve heard from them, seem like they could be up to big things come 2012. Get Spinning.

Tiger Waves – Funeral March

21 Dec

Tiger Waves are a brilliantly big sounding duo straight out of Austin. And Chicago. Because, in a nicely modern twist, the guys make their music by blasting sounds backwards and forwards over the net between the towns. And, luckily for our ears, this approach seems to be working a treat for ‘em.
