With an intro that reeks of Santigold’s Car Song, melodies that are The Drums at their finest and vocals that are half Best Coast half Warpaint Slowdance have come to our attention with one of the greatest calling cards imaginable. ‘Boyfriend’ really is one of the most compelling new songs Ive heard this year. This kind of lo-fi/melodic guitar music can so easily be boring, as best shown by Friends’ recent half-hearted debut, but in the hands of Slowdance its nothing less than compelling. It’s got a strong Autumnal feel, so much so that at times I could swear i smell a bonfire, and I’m completely and utterly in love with it. Possibly my favorite new act of 2012.
