Mixing punk, post-punk and folk probably sounds like a recipe for disaster but, much like our nation’s sporting endeavors, sometimes something good comes out of the most unlikely combinations (namely a nation of tea drinking cynics doing anything energetic). Luckily English Sporting Defeat, despite the name, have come up trumps with their debut effort. A sprightly blend of rousing strings and driving guitars it’s a peppy introduction to a group who could hardly be more British. Worth a spin.
