Why We Care:  Some songs take a while to sink in, some twist you up in unexpected knots and others are immediately open, as perfectly obvious as a track you’ve know all your life. Jungle’s debut single is the latter. Creeping out the speakers in a swagger of phosphorescent funk its one of the most immediately perfect songs we’ve heard since Oscar’s opening salvo ‘Never Told You’. Everything from the silk soft hand-claps to the sultry snarl of the vocals is in perfect proportion and the melody is as insistent as it is simple. Jungle’s come out of nowhere with one of 2013′s best debuts and we’re pretty confident in predicting huge things.

Smith Westerns’ sophomore Lp Soft Will is on its way and, having already dropped Varisty (undeniably one of ht best songs of the year), they’ve continued the pure gold streak with 3AM spiritual. The apathetic circular melodies that made their debut such a winner are back in full force and it doesn’t seem to far fetched to predict that their new one will be one of the best full-length of 2013.

The Brighton based four-piece Two Jackals have just dropped their first proper single. Premiered on Fake DIY this morning its a looming slab of dark, ethereal melody topped off with sparkling guitars and heavy hearted vocals. Not something that will put a spring in your step as you trudge to the office but pretty perfect all the same.

Messy post-punk layabout Virals is back with a new song. Tiled ‘Wax-Works’ its a searing blaze of scuzzy melodies and sunny riffs. The grungy, slacker aesthetic is already pretty massive this summer (Splashh, Childhood etc) so get ready to see him making waves in the festival fields.

Apologies first off for the long radio silence. Sorting out labels, track listing and trying to find industrial quantities of bubble wrap have been taking up our time as we get ready for the release of our cassette this Friday.

We can’t release the full track listing until then, but we’re pretty psyched to announce that this will be the first time any of Thom’s (Alt-J) remixes have got a physical release. Alongside that there are 12 new, and some unheard, tracks from artists including the Pitchfork tipped Oscar, Temple Songs and Chateaux.

Everyone’s favorite fraternal fuck-ups Drenge have just dropped another new track. As ever its snarling, savage and twisted up in hugely entertaining rowdiness.  They look like middle class layabouts and sound like the rock reincarnated. Go figure.

Oh B-town, the word on the lips of all the A&R kids has become as dated as a snap-back. All the home-town heroes, Swim Deep and Peace, have migrated to London and picked up model girlfriends, and the kids who’ve been saddled with the heavy task of carrying the flame – Jaws- are slowly sliding out of the spotlight. Its nice to see then that there’s still some new life in the brackish murk of the back-water. ‘Heavy Waves’ are part of the b-town scene but, with their crushingly up-front wall of fuzz aesthetic, they haven’t drunk deep from the poisoned chalice that is ‘Midlands surf-rock’. King Krule does his best Ghostpoet impression on this new Mt Kimbie Track. Growling in rhythmic stutters he sounds tortured and terrifying in almost equal measure.

Latter day John Wayne evangelists Men’s Adventures are back with a new tune.  Mopey, bow-legged and dripping with spaghetti-western romanticism its another great track from a band who are happy to do things a little differently. Fans of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros will find a lot to love. Their Solitary Trip Ep is dropping on June 24th via Dirty Bingo.

Spectrals has just premiered the title track off his upcoming sophomore. Languorous, mournful and bound up in tight coils of adolescent angst its a slow dance staple for the modern man. Beautiful.

MANS are back with a new single. The group, who dropped their first few tracks via Teeth Records at the start of the year, have a debut album in the works and, to mark the occasion, decided to drop one of their new tunes. Soulful, sordid and pulsing with Prince indebted funk its pretty great.

Majical Cloudz have been one of 2013′s most unexpected success stories. Founded in 2012 by Devon Welsh they’re minimalism removed from post-dubstep conventions.  Hard hitting and mournful the album is one of the best of the year and, ‘a la Parquet Courts’, nobody saw it coming. We’re really smitten.

Fair Ohs are one of the more interesting bands you’re going to read about today. They used to be a hardcore metal band but then, after something of a vision, they decided post-tropical lo-fi rock was more their scene. Its all worked out pretty well for them and, with their reputation growing every day, they’ve got a new Lp waiting to drop. Its called Jungle Cats and this is the first track. We dig.

Big Deal are back with another new track from their upcoming sophomore Lp. Its called Dream Machines and keeps up the seriously good vibes introduce by ‘In Your Car’. Their debut eponymous Lp was phenomenal and this new one’s shaping up to be just as good. Drowsy, loved-up and full of angst its big, tangled beast of a track.

The past few days have been absurdly good for new music. We’ve heard new tunes from Splashh, Superfood, Crushed Beaks and Temples. The Daft Punk album leaked and now, as if to christen the day with a truly wonderful treat, our favorite Mancunians Temple Songs have dropped the first taste of their upcoming Ep. ‘Passed Caring’ is a Kodachrome toned blast of wormy little melodies, crunchy guitars and vocals that drip reverb and apathy in equal measure. With every song they drop we predict that Temple Songs are on the cusp of something massive but now, surely, they actually are. We’re absolutely bowled away by how much good material they produce each year and, with fingers firmly crossed, it seems that 2013 is going to be the one in which the mother-load is finally hit. Superb.
