Hey ‘All We Are’, what’s the story behind the band?
We had known each other since 2006 and were involved in several different bands and solo projects, but weren’t exactly content with our musical careers. So we decided to join forces and concentrate everything in one single project – we are much better off together.
Where do you hail from?
Brazil, Norway and Ireland, but Liverpool is our home.
What are your (musical) influences and how have you gone about creating your sound?
Our sound is sometimes compared to Bon Iver, Elbow, Broken Social Scene, but we obviously give our own edge to it. Our music is created based on our limitations. We are only 3, with an unconventional standing-up drummer, so how can we think out of the box and make it sound as good and big as it can be?
Is there anything unusual that influences you?
What’s the day-job?
Rich and Guro have a duo that plays Irish music in the Norwegian territory. Luís is a freelance photographer and videographer.
Do you prefer being in the recording studio or playing live?
They both have pros and cons, the studio is very liberating creatively but can be intense and solitary. Playing live is about the buzz and getting recognition for you efforts, but can be cruel if you are playing the wrong gig for the wrong people.
Any terrible live experiences yet?
Not really, some gigs are hard, but we always give our best. Everyone makes mistakes and that’s part of performance, the trick is to not let it bother you and play with emotion.
Tell us something we don’t know:
Rich lives in an old school, Luís secretly wants to be a blues guitarist and Guro is gluten intolerant.
What’s your favorite release of 2012?
One of our favorites is Dr.John’s new album, Locked Down. We’ve been listening to loads of him recently. ‘Mama Roux’ is one of the coolest songs ever and makes us want to drink in New Orleans.
What can we expect from you this summer?
Fusion festival in Germany is going to be a highlight. We are also playing festivals in Norway and Ireland and we are in the process of recording for our next release, out after summer.
