Who: The Liberty Vessels
Why We Care: They’re young, energetic and refreshingly removed from the well-worn cliches of 2013. They don’t mention beaches, weed or cats, they’re unafraid of using major chords and they don’t rely on distortion to hide their bum-notes or half-baked vocals. Theirs is a world of tedious train-rides, Lucozade and low expectations. “Nothing’s expected of me, so I’ll sleep my dreams away” is the most perfectly crushing dismissal our generation’s inertia that’s been committed to mp3. They don’t pretend to be prophetic or rebellious but, somehow, with their buzzy accounts of crushed dreams and sub-suburban loathing they’ve absolutely nailed it.
