Last night the legendary Mr Huw Stephens gave Childhood’s promised new single its first spin. Its called Solemn Skies and, for want of a better word, its majestic. Spurring into life in a hazy swirl of soaring guitar lines and vocals that softly circle above sun-kissed melodies its the sort of track summers are defined by. It was always a worry that they’d be going somewhat ‘tet a tet’ with their Birmingham compatriots Swim Deep for the neo-romantic crown but, as Solemn Skies shows, these kids have enough smarties in their own party bag to not have to worry about snatching any from the B-town boys.
Besides, for those of who who like hierarchies, they’re far better.
