Cymbals have come back with another elongated statement of intent. Where most bands would be satisfied to drop a lo-fi 3 minute draft this lot, whose last two singles have built up a cocoon of hype around the London based four-piece, don’t settle for anything less than perfection. Which perhaps explains why their last 3 tracks have all clocked in at significantly longer than 5 minutes -the usual cut off point for even the most ambitious tracks. The track, alarmingly titled The End, blends Balearic wistfulness with spasms of deep brooding synth to create a beast that skips from minimalistic math-rock riffs to euro-house breaks with ease. Vocalist Jack Cleverly’s touch here is light, but the gentleness of his murmured vocals belies the pensive poise of the lyrics. Its a beautifully constructed track and one that, with a third Lp on the horizon, has only whetted our appetite.
