The Magic Gang – Shallow

Taking their aural prompts from Blue album era Weezer The Magic Gang, Brighton’s very own super group, are all that was good about 90’s guitar music coated in a crisp, crackling glaze of jade-eyed apathy.

Pushing the vocals right to the front of the mix ‘Shallow’, one of a clutch of tracks the boys recorded with MJ (Hookworms), is a club footed waltz tied up with wall-eyed, chiming guitar lines and self-lacerating lyrics.

The four-piece are amongst the best songwriters in the genre, the upcoming Bruises displays their nous particularly well, and, as such, seem to feel no need to trade in the sort of dull, surf-rock epithets peddled by a number of their peers.
