Shimmying into life like a stoned majorette, The Babe Rainbow’s new one – Planet Junior – is a candy-coloured freak out of the finest calibre. It may not be breaking any new ground (This is Psych with a capital P) but – for what its worth – it does what it does very, very well.
It sounds like Foxygen on a heavy dose of Diazepam. It sounds like The Brian Jonestown Massacre at their bleary eyed best. It sounds like the perfect blend, of the most potent strains, from the most kaleidoscopic forest, and – with the production tuned to within an inch of sublimity – it stands as another good reason to keep an eye on the aestheitcally astute adepodeians.
